Test Report

Test Reports

Test reports are available in two forms. The first form is simply a record of the electrical and physical characteristics of the motor while it was being tested. These characteristics are represented in the familiar quantities of voltage, current, temperature, inches per second, decibels, RPM, torque and horsepower. While being informative, the characteristics can prove confusing when attempting to assess a motor's performance. In order to simplify the evaluation process, the TMDS uses a Graduated Standard that allows for the instant assessment of the motor's performance.

This Graduated Standard assigns a grade of A, B, C or F to key performance characteristics of the motor. The levels at which a certain grade is obtained can be changed easily by accessing the Graduated Standard function in the database. With the grading system, all that is required of the operator is to look at the letter grade the motor received for a certain characteristic instead of comparing numeric values, which can lead to errors. The result is a reduction in the time it takes to evaluate a motor's performance and a virtual elimination of assessment error.

The database contains a utility which defines the graduated standard. Each motor model is assigned a unique graduated standard for grading purposes.

Below are actual samples of TMDS motor test reports. Click on the images to enlarge.

Terminology

The following terms are used for grading test results and appear on the Graded Test Results report.

Avg.

The average of the two numeric results for both rotational directions is used to determine the grade received.

Diff.

The difference of the two numeric results for both rotational directions is used to determine the grade received.

Std. Dev.

The Standard Deviation of the multiple numeric results for both rotational directions are used to determine the grade received. For example, this function is used to evaluate the 3 phase current of an AC motor.
