Database

Database

The TMDS database software can be installed on any computer and features a high level password with can be made available to operators. This allows for convenient review of test results and setting of test parameters if the TMDS computer is networked to other computers.

The TMDS database software performs the following functions:

Display and definition of individual motor information

The functions available on the Motor Information screen allow for the entry or review of the following information about a specific motor:

- Serial Number
- Model
- Commodity Number
- Armature or Rotor Number

This information is stored in the database and serves two purposes. The Model is used to determine the test parameters which the motor is subjected to during a test. When the operator enters a serial number to start a test, the computer finds the corresponding model of the motor and performs the test as dictated by the information stored in the database under the Model heading. In addition, the Serial Number heading is used to store and access test results. Unique serial numbers should be assigned to each motor in order to keep track of individual motors. Every time a motor is tested the test results are stored in a file dedicated to that specific motor. This allows easy monitoring of the motor's performance over its lifetime.

The Numeric Results and Graded Results buttons allow access to the test results of the motor defined in the Serial # box. Refer to the next section for details regarding test results.

The Print List button will print a list of all motor serial numbers stored in the database.

Motor Model Information

The functions available on the Motor Model Information screen allow for the entry or review the following information about motor models:

- Model Number
- Commodity Number
- Manufacturer
- Number of Armature Commutator Bars (DC motor only)
- Number of Bearing Rollers
- Defaults Standard

The name of the Default Standard determines which standard the computer will use when determining the grades the motor model will receive when analyzing the numeric test results.

When selected, the Test Parameters and Test Limits buttons will display the test parameters and test limits for the motor model. Refer to the next two sections for details regarding test parameters and test limits.

Test Parameters and Test Limits for Specific Motor Models

Test parameters, which are instructions on how to test a motor, are stored under the Motor Model heading. Therefore, any motors that are the same model are subjected to the same test parameters. A complete list of test parameters is available by contacting us, as the sample below only shows those parameters for a DC motor load tests.

The Test Limits are maximum allowable levels which can exist during a test. If any of the limits is exceeded, the test is terminated and the operator notified of the situation.

Motor Model Limits

The following parameters are those that are considered to be the maximum allowable operating condition for a specific motor model. If the level of any parameter exceeds the defined limits, the test is terminated. These limits are different from the Operational Limits in that they are specific to each motor model and, in general, of a lesser magnitude than the Operational Limits.

DC Motor

- Speed
- Vibration
- Armature Current
- Field Current
- Temperature

AC Motor

- Speed
- Vibration
- Current
- Temperature

Operational Limits

The operational limits are intended to protect the TMDS itself in case of a system or motor failure. If any limit is exceeded, the test is terminated. A typical list of Operational Limits is given below.

- AC Output Voltage
- AC Output Current
- Armature Output Voltage
- Armature Output Current
- Field Output Voltage
- Field Output Current
- Vibration
- Torque
- Input Voltage Imbalance
- Dynamometer Water Temperature
- Dynamometer Water Pressure

Test Configuration

This utility allows for the enabling or disabling of test segments. If a test segment is disabled, it will not be performed during the test sequence. For example, the system can be configured to perform only the load test.

Passwords

Two passwords are used for different levels of system access. One is the low-level password, which should be issued to all personnel authorized to operate the TMDS and allows access to the Automatic Test function. The second is the high-level password which allows access to every system function.
